Images from the road 2005 - Alaska Phase II

Turnagain Bay tide coming in. It has tide surges of 24-30 feet.
In front of this tide wall are Buluga Whales, an incredible site.

More of Turnagain Bay on our drive from Anchorage
to the Kenai Peninsula.

Its hard to see but more of the tide wall coming in.

More tide wall approaching a Glacier.

I just love the Glaciers and the tide wall. Watching the
water coming in so fast is just unbelievable.

Momma Moose and baby accross the street from where we
parked in Soldotna at John and Marta's.

A Moose right outside our RV, I opened the window and
had a good talk with it. They are so awesome.

Awesome view of Ninilchik, cute little village on Cook Inlet.
Accross the Inlet are active Volcanos.

Overlooking Homer....I love Homer!

Ahhhh.....Homer! This is the scenic overlook going into
town. Kachemak Bay with Glaciers all around.

Akbar contemplating the great escape! He would get outside
and meow like crazy ("I'm outside, oh my")

Akbar catching some rays!

As you can see Akbar has adapted to the RV lifestyle.
He's great to have along.

Robyn impersonating an Eagle.

Waiting for a pizza in Girdwood, Robyn played with Paul's
hair (he's such a good step-dad).

The Girdwood Forest Fair....totally awesome! Not only was it
one of our best shows, we had the best time.

Girdwood Forest Fair, excellent music, great food and awesome
art. All nestled in between moutains and rivers.

Sea Otters playing in Seldovia Harbour. You can only
get to Seldovia by air or water. We took a boat taxi
from Homer.

Robyn and a friend checking out the water by the B&B.
Robyn thought the water was a little toooo cold.

Paul put on a concert on the deck at the Seldovia Rowing
Club B & B. What a setting

To incredible Ravens (we assume a couple) kept us company
on the deck for hours.

Susan Muma,, owner of the B&B, is setting Robyn up to go in
the Kayak.

We floated down the Slough and soaked up the rays and
beauty. Eagles flying over head and fish jumping all around.

This is a view from the water of the B&B.

Seldovia has incredible tides, they average 22 feet.
This is low tide from the deck of B&B.

Same picture from the deck at high tide.

I just liked the shot.....can't get to much of a good thing

Different views from the same deck. We really enjoyed
this spot. As we relaxed on this great deck, eagles
would fly over head teaching their young to fly.

Another view at low tide. As you can see there is a river of fresh water that flows under the slough, so there is always
water flowing.

Same shot at high tide. We have been so fortunate
this whole trip with "having the best weather"

This was taken from a bridge down the boardwalk from
the B&B. Did I mention it was on a boardwalk?

Outside Beach on the otherside of Seldovia. We rode our
bikes here, Robyn is exploring the tide pools. I'm looking
in the distance at the snow capped volcanos.

Robyn caught a small crab.

On the boat ride back from Seldovia to Homer we saw some
Humpback Whales. It's hard to see but we took this picture
of it's tail.

Robyn picked up some Sea Urchins at the dock.

On the boat ride into Homer we passed some
Glaciers.

On the drive back into Soldotna we finally got to see a sunset,
it was 1:30am. The mountian in the background in part of
the Aleutian Mtn. Range at Cook Inlet.

More of that early morning sunset.

It was a sad day when Miss. Sow passed on. Robyn was
so incredible and caring for her on her last days.
On her monument she wrote: "Here lies Miss. Sow, she was
a good rat and a better friend" We are going to miss her.

In Homer there is a spit that jets out a mile. It's an
interesting mix of people and place. We collected
drifted wood at low tide.

Fireweed is a beautiful flower that blooms all over
Alaska....as you'll see. It makes a good honey too! That's
Cook Inlet in the back ground.

We camped here over night, it was an excellent view of
Mt. Redoubt (I think?) or one of those other
Volcano's.

The boat is a really large fishing charter. Another view of
our overnight stop near Ninilchik.

A view from the inside of our RV, hard to belive
this spot is just a pull-out on the road.

John caught us some Salmon that we had on the grill....
ummmmm. Nothing like fresh wild salmon.

This is the Russian River, if you look really hard
you can see the fisherman catching salmon on the
right. If you look even harder you'll see a sow Grizzly with
two cubs to the right of the fisherman.

They are playing in the water, right on the edge.
This is one of the times I wish I had a telephoto lens.

This is Exit Glacier that Paul and I hiked to near Seward.

I like this perspective of the stop sign with all the ...
stuff around it.

Looking Hot infront of the Cool Glacier.

Water way leading from Exit Glacier as the sun
starts to go behind it.

We took an all day boat tour of the Kenai Fjords. Half
half way through we realized our camera was not
taking photos....so the following are photos of what
we did capture.

This is a rock that normally holds 500 to 600
Harbour Seals. Their #'s are dropping rapidly, this
year there were only 65. Alot of research is going
into their disappearance.

Some seals on the rock in front. The photo ops we missed
were being surrounded by about 20-30 Finned Whales, and
and lots of Puffins and a variety of Penquins.

Nice drive from Seward to Girdwood. This was
going through Moose Pass.

Turnagain Bay...named by Captain Cook who
kept turning again, and again, and again.

WUV in the Fireweed!

My favorite shot of the fireweed with the contrast
of colors. A glacier in the background near Girdwood.

Robyn and I playing tourist and picking up some
Buffalo meat.

Robyn fishing the Kenai River for Salmon.

I CAUGHT ONE! We'll be eating fish tonight ;-)

SHE CAUGHT ONE!

Awesome rainbow at Funny River. We stayed at Rusty
and Crista's home and had a great weekend.

Paul pulling Rusty, knee boarding.

Robyn is skiing on a piece of plywood by a strong
current tied to a bridge. Something she picked up
from the local kids of Girdwood.

On our journey out of Alaska we took the Glenn Highway
and passed Matanuska Glacier. Very cool!

This Glacier was so vast it so hard to capture
on film.

We found a great campground with a view of
Mt. Blackburn. I went for a swim, I must be
getting use to the cold, it was about 54 degrees.

Robyn and I went on a paddle boat ride.
This is a view from our RV window.

The next morning we all went out in the paddle boat and
Robyn paddled us around the lake while we had our breakfast
and coffee. This is a view looking back at the campground.

Around Lake Kulane on the ALCAN Hwy. If you look
really close there is a bridge at the base of the mountain
that is about a block long (to give you some perspective).

We saw a few Elk going back on the ALCAN, but no
other animals.

This is the Frasier River going down through BC. It was a great
drive through.

Cache Creek was this really cool town in the middle of BC.
It's a desert in the middle of all this lushness....
Weird.
